Dah...operating costs are always past on to the consumer, but no taxes right? Whatever... -Carl
"Under President Obama's budget submitted to lawmakers, wireless carriers such as Verizon, AT&T and Sprint would be hit with huge fees for the right to hold a spectrum license. The fee per carrier would be $50 million this year and eventually rise to $500 million per carrier, per year within a decade. Users fear carriers will add the new fee to phone bills."

Well this news is reassuring... -Carl
"Responding to a hack at the FAA, agency officials plan to use a crawler-type application to inventory the FAA's sensitive data. While the cyber-attack on the FAA did not hit servers connected to the operation of the air traffic control system or any other FAA operational system, the hack did expose the fact the FAA couldn't account for its data."

"The odds are high that we're not alone in the universe. In fact, there may be 100 billion Earth-like planets in the Milky Way, or one for every sun-type star in the galaxy"

Wait, I just read a study showing the rise in CO2 corresponding with the earth's temperature dropping...what exactly are we trying to do here? -Carl
"The idea is to fit 400 trees per CO2 Scraper, fed with water and nutrients through a pump system powered by a windmill. These skyscrapers are meant to be built near factories not only to absorb greenhouse gases but provide shade from the sun."

"In 2010, growth in national health expenditures is projected to decelerate to 4.6 percent, down from 5.5 in 2009, due to a projected decline in Medicare spending growth as a result of a 21-percent cut to Medicare physician payment rates, according to a healthcare spending projection report issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)"

" A system of opposing genetic forces determines why mammals develop a single row of teeth, while sharks sport several, according to a study published in the journal Science. When completely understood, the genetic program described in the study may help guide efforts to re-grow missing teeth and prevent cleft palate, one of the most common birth defects."

The extent lawmakers will go to collect taxes doesn't suprise me! -Carl
"Lawmakers reintroduce legislation aimed at slowing the online sale of stolen goods. The bills, targeting organized retail crime, would allow retailers to slap take-down notices on online marketplaces like eBay, Overstock and Amazon.com without so much as a police report indicating the goods for sale are of suspicious origin."

"Despite starting strong in 2008, the Ethernet switch market saw revenues fall as the year closed, according to Infonetics Research. Sequential and year-over-year revenue numbers fell in the fourth quarter. Some companies, including Alcatel-Lucent, Nortel and Extreme, fared well in the quarter, though Cisco accounted for much of the overall year-over-year market drop. There were some bright spots: The North American market saw growth in the quarter, and sales of higher-priced products increased."

"You can log on to a Web site and check a box indicating the computer is missing. Now during startup, a big yellow and red banner appears on the screen, boldly declaring the laptop lost or stolen. This message is set to reappear every 30 seconds, no matter how many times the thief closes the window. Retriever uses built-in Wi-Fi."
